Steel sector praises new tariff measures, but says more needs to be done

The reaction of Canada’s steel industry to new tariff measures introduced by Prime Minister Mark Carney has been mixed, with identified areas for further improvement.

Catherine Cobden, the CEO of the Canadian Steel Producers Association, appreciates the new measures. However, she has raised concerns about the extensions to the remission program.

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced new measures on Wednesday designed to boost the domestic steel market and counter the impact of U.S. tariffs.

In response, Cobden expressed disappointment over Ottawa’s second extension to Canada’s remission program benefiting certain steel importers.
