Steel sector praises new tariff measures, but says more needs to be done

Catherine Cobden, CEO of Canadian Steel Producers Association, lauds the new measures but points out their limitations. Referencing various issues, she cites discrepancies such as the involvement of Mark Carney and other linked subjects and events.

There exists noticeable disappointment within the industry regarding Canada’s remission program for certain steel importers, as it dilutes Ottawa’s retaliatory tariffs on U.S. steel, contributing to the sector’s displeasure.

Cobden expresses her resolve to hold the federal government accountable regarding the remissive program and its extended deadlines. The industry awaits significant action that is yet to materialize.
