Steel sector praises new tariff measures, but says more needs to be done.

The Head of Canada’s steel industry association appreciates Prime Minister Mark Carney’s measures to help the domestic market. However, they express dissatisfaction regarding the continuation of the remission program for some steel importers.

Catherine Cobden, CEO of the Canadian Steel Producers Association shares that those measures might not fully compensate for the loss caused due to tariffs imposed by the US, but it’s a positive direction for the industry in need.

The industry was disappointed by the continuation of Canada’s remission program for some steel importers, which weakens Ottawa’s retaliatory tariffs on U.S. steel.
